Family Pictures
In the soft glow of the setting sun, the light shines across the room and highlights the impressive spread of family pictures on the wall. They were moments captured in time, showing the precious faces of laughing children and the warm familiar feeling of a family full of love. Many people have experienced flashbacks of memories in some sense, especially when they look at pictures. There is nothing more beautiful and priceless than capturing the love between a family and all its members and being able to reflect on them later. Yet, there is something so bittersweet about freezing a moment in time, however posed, and poised, it’s still a memory to be cherished and only a moment in your life. In ten years, even if the same pictures are not displayed on the wall, you will have those gorgeous reminders of the family bond and ties that you experienced. Family history and narrative are important, especially a hundred years or so from now. Those pictures will go on forever, acting as important as any family heirloom, which is invaluable, passing the love and importance of family to our ancestors, generations ahead. We have the amazing technology to do that, when a couple of hundred years ago that wasn't possible, except in the form of paintings. Paintings were mainstream, but there is something unique about photographs that paintings can’t capture. Photography has the unique ability to capture a true memory frozen in time. Looking at pictures of ancestors from long ago, daydreaming, and wondering what their lives were like is a modern-day miracle. Not everyone is lucky enough to study pictures of the previous generations of their family, it’s a privilege to do so. Modern-day allows us more liberties when it comes to capturing and keeping our legacies.
As we navigate the busy currents of life, let us not forget the importance of cherishing and reflecting on memories from our past. The pictures are proof of a life well lived full of love and family.
